Dr. Babatunde Ajibade, SAN

Dr. Babatunde Ajibade is the Managing Partner of S. P. A. Ajibade & Co., a leading corporate and commercial law firm with offices in Lagos, Ibadan and Abuja, Nigeria.

Babatunde is a dispute resolution specialist but he also has substantial expertise in transactional corporate and commercial legal practice.  He has been involved in all aspects of corporate and commercial litigation and arbitration.

He was the pioneer Secretary, Vice-Chairman and a past Chairman of the Capital Markets Solicitors Association.  He was Vice-Chairman of the Rules and Regulations Sub-Committee of the Securities and Exchange Commission’s Capital Markets Committee and is a Council Member of the Nigerian Bar Association’s – Section on Business Law as well as the Vice-Chairman of its Banking, Finance and Insolvency Sub-Committee.

Babatunde also has a special interest in the law relating to the recognition and enforcement of foreign judgments and has handled several cases on behalf of judgment debtors and judgment creditors, involving this area of Private International Law.

Babatunde was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1989; he obtained a LL.M Degree in Corporate and Commercial Law from King’s College University of London in 1990; he also obtained a Ph.D in Private International Law from the same university in 1996.  He has been a Fellow of the Society of Advanced Legal Studies in the UK since 1996.  He was elevated to the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria in December 2007.  He was awarded the International Practice Fellowship of the International Bar Association in Madrid in October 2009 and became a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (UK) in January 2015.
